Two New Bird Cards in Janthina’s Just Cards Gallery

Janthina Images has two new bird cards available for sale!

Louisiana Heron Card

The Louisiana Heron is also known as the Tri-Color Heron due to its white underbelly, slate blue feathers, and the tinge of burgundy! This portrait shows its wonderful feather textures and mating plumage. During the breeding season this dainty bird exhibits the white head plumes, buff/coppery train, and the ruby red eye color! Cast against sunlit green foliage the bird stands out in gorgeous detail. Audubon in his Ornithological Biographies, V.3 writes of the Louisiana Heron “Delicate in form, beautiful in plumage, and graceful in its movements, I never see this interesting Heron, without calling it the Lady of the Waters.”

The Great White Heron Card shows this elegant creature in a setting of mangroves. A white color morph of the Great Blue Heron, its range is limited to the Florida Keys and very southern Everglades. Audubon wrote “Writers who have subdivided the family, and stated that none of the True Herons are white, will doubtless be startled when they, for the first time look at my plate of this bird.” In Audubon’s time the Great White Heron was considered a separate species from the Great Blue Heron rather than its color morph.  But, it must have been very exciting to see this most elegant and majestic of the Great Herons for the very first time!! The old specie name of occidentalis is now the sub-specie name in consideration of its naming history.

Both cards are set in a natural textured background inside and out with Janthina’s Everglades Notes Mermeleon element on the back.

I hope that you will enjoy seeing these new additions and visit the Just Cards Gallery on soon!!
